dan mengubah rencana yang lain. Dan setelah kita dapat menyelesaikan
dengan baik,kita dapat menyusun rencana yang baru.

Sawiris merupakan dewan direksi dan CEO dari Orascom Telecom Mesir, yaitu sebuah operator jaringan GSM multinasional untuk pasar Timur Tengah, Afrika, dan Asia Selatan. Padahal, tahun lalu ia hanya berada pada urutan ke-278 untuk edisi Forbes. Kekayaannya sebesar US$10 milyar

Google Phone Akan Muncul Dua Minggu Lagi?

Berita rahasia mengenai kemunculan Google Phone akhirnya muncul juga. Gosipnya adalah produk Google phone akan muncul di India dalam waktu sekitar dua minggu ke depan. Produk tersebut selanjutnya akan dipasarkan di Eropa dan Amerika. Disebutkan pula bahwa produk itu kemungkinan akan menggunakan material sodium chloride.

Life And Health In The Year 1000

Compared with the way things used to be, we have it so very soft today. It's easy to take our modern conveniences for granted. We can fill our days with leisure, bustle around in comfy autos, work only 40 of the 168 hours in a week, chat with therapists, read philosophy, shop for unnecessary stuff to clog our closets and garages, climate control our dwellings and complain about the softness of our mattresses.

In the year 1000, even when agriculture had been around for some 10,000 years, life was entirely different. In Anglo-Saxon society, a precursor to the modern West, the possibility of famine was ever-present and memories of the last one made dread and fear a part of everyday life. Looming natural disasters were constant specters.

Domiciles were not the neat and clean hygienic environs we experience today. They did not smell of disinfectant or exhaust from engines wafting in the windows, but the exhaust from every manner of farm creature and humans always hung in the air. Manure was everywhere with each one having its characteristic bouquet of fragrance. The human nose in the year 1000 could certainly not be so prissy as ours today.

Latrines were located at or near the back door and moss was toilet paper. Flies filled the dank and earthen floor homes where there were few if any hard surfaced utensils and there was no understanding of disease vectors or antiseptic. If you dropped food on the filthy floor, you picked it up and ate it with relish. Five baths a year for monks was thought to be fanaticism by Saxon standards of personal hygiene.

In time of famine, their law code permitted fathers to sell their sons aged seven or above into slavery. Infanticide was not a crime. Communities of 40 or 50 starving emaciated people would join hands at the edge of a cliff and jump. Some chronicles report that "men ate each other." They would comb the forests for beechnuts overlooked by the wild pigs and would grind acorns, beans, peas and tree bark into a flour to bake as bread. Hedgerows were scoured for paltry herbs, roots, nettles and grasses. "What makes bitter things sweet?" asked a Yorkshire schoolmaster. "Hunger."

A "crazy bread" of ground poppies, hemp and darnel gave our poor starving ancestors some relief with visions of paradise. Molds that laced the rye that was aging contained a variety of mycotoxins (and lysergic acid [LSD], the psychedelic drug of the "60s) that could not only make people appear mad but would severely weaken the immune system, permitting disease to run rampant. (Note that the cause of the great plagues and epidemics was not the disease agent, but the fragile or non-existent immune system of the starving and poisoned host.)

The church would help allay the pain by harnessing hunger to spiritual purposes. Lent made virtue of necessity, coming as it did in the final months of winter when barns and larders were growing empty. Feast and famine were linked to spiritual purification and gave meaning to hardship as well as hope for better times.

July was particularly tough since the spring crops had not matured and the barns were empty from the previous year's harvest. Starving was common in the balmiest month of the year when so much toil in the fields was necessary.

Every single hour of the August harvest month was filled with urgency, since everyone knew from the pains of July what was in store for them next year if they did not fill their larders now. Work was not a right, a place to lobby for benefits and ease. It was a life and death struggle.

The contrast between then and now is astonishing. They were on the verge of starvation; we are fighting an epidemic of obesity. They might have to subsist for months on potatoes or stale bread; we have a glut of food options at our instant disposal. They had shortened life spans and were highly vulnerable to injury and disease. We live longer but suffer cruel lingering degenerative conditions.

It is clear from a realistic view of times gone by that it was not the advent of modern medicine that brought relief, it was, as I mentioned in a previous article on SARS http://www.wysong.net/health/hl_919.shtml, it was the plumber bringing public utilities and with that the possibility of hygiene and the trucker distributing food supplies that brought us our present long lives.

For them it was a daily struggle for survival. Necessity and muscle ruled the day. It was the physical stress of enduring cold, harnessing 8 oxen to a plow to break new soil, hand harvesting and making their own way every moment of the day. It was the true helplessness and victimization (unlike modern day contrived social "victims" clamoring for rights and handouts) from floods, droughts, winds and rain that could wipe out their only hope to avoid starvation in the coming year. For us it is a surfeit of choices requiring intellectual decisions – decisions that make the difference between whether we experience full health or its slow insidious ruination by mindlessly partaking of every offering that promises yet more ease and flavor just because it is there.

The Logitech MX Air is designed for users who use their computers as a Media Center. I'm one of them and I know how frustrating it is when I (inevitably) have to use the mouse while I'm in the couch: get up, crouch in front of the TV table, do something, sit down… it didn't work, get up…

To make a long story short, the MX Air is a mouse that users hold like a remote and strangely enough, it works just like you would imagine it should – we tried it, although only for a few minutes. Users can also use the buttons, or gestures to control things like play, pause, volume, mute… it's cool.

The design is particularly attractive. At the moment, there's only one color scheme: shiny-black and silver. More colors might be added if the product becomes a commercial success. If you're watching a movie in a dark room, you'll appreciate the fact that the orange lights fade off when the remote isn't used.

Gyration can worry for their Optical Air Mouse, there's a new sheriff in town that has an intuitive and beautiful design. We always said it: good design sells. Maximum suggested price for the MX Air: $149.99. This mouse should pop on the Logitech website anytime now.

Dell unleashes EC280

Dell has just removed the veil covering the EC280 computer which is based on a Mini-ITX architecture. Low power consumption is a signature feature of the EC280, powered by a rather limp Intel Celeron M205 processor running at 1.2GHz with the SiSM661GX chipset in tow. The EC280 comes with 512MB of RAM and can hold up to a 80GB hard drive complete with a CD-ROM/DVD-ROM. Don't expect serious number crunching to be done here, other than casual Web surfing and some word processing. The Dell EC280 will be released in China and hits your pocket with relatively lightweight damage of $340. In fact, it skimps so much on power that it requires only 65W to run with Windows XP Home Edition at the helm.

M200G Volantor for the Jetsons

Moller International has certainly opened the world's eyes to yet another alternative mode of transport - flying vehicles. The M200G Volantor seats two comfortably and is capable of hovering up to 10 feet across most surfaces (allowing you to skip pesky traffic jams) at a maximum speed of 50mph. It consumes mostly ethanol as the fuel of choice, but I wonder how exactly traffic laws will be modified to accomodate these. At $90,000 a pop they won't be mainstream anytime soon though. Looks like with the M200G Volantor flying around, there will be more and more UFO stories appearing in tabloids and gossip magazines nationwide. I don't know, will cops get one of these as well in order to nab offenders who break the speed limit with this? After all, their Fords can't exactly fly, although they certainly can transform.

It would seem as though these helmets from Tanizawa of Japan are pre-cursors to those full-faced helmets worn by Clone Troopers before the Empire was formed. A couple of versions were paraded at the Japan Wireless Show, where "A" came with a W-CDMA (FOMA) card, an integrated telephone, GPS navigation, a RFID chip, and a camera that displays real-time audio and video information. As for the "B" mode, it boasts a vibrating system, an integrated walkie-talkie, solar panels, and simple visualization via a LED display. Sounds as though these would find a place on the battlefield. Cursor hackers target WoW players

World of Warcraft players are being targeted by hackers exploiting flaws in how Windows handles animated cursors.

The flaw came to light in late March and lets attackers take over vulnerable PCs via booby-trapped websites.

Warcraft players seem to be one of the targets because accounts for the game are potentially worth significant sums of money.

Microsoft has issued a patch for the flaw early to combat the rising number of attacks.

Player power

Security firms tracking how criminal hackers are exploiting the cursor flaw suspect there are many websites hosting the code that can be used to take over vulnerable PCs.

Some of the sites have been specially created but others have been hacked to be unwitting hosts for the infection.

The potential for the flaw to do harm grew significantly with the discovery of a website that automatically generates all the attack files needed to turn a site into a booby-trap.

A large number of criminally-minded hacking gangs are cashing in on the flaw.

One Chinese group known to be using the animated cursor flaw scored some success in February when it managed to hack a Superbowl website and use it to host code for spyware.
Analysis of that malicious software showed that it lay dormant on a victims machine until they ran World of Warcraft (WoW) at which point it captured login data and sent it to the hacking group.

The group's enthusiastic use of the cursor flaw suggests it is trying to do the same again.

The online fantasy game now has more than eight million active players around the world.

Research by security firm Symantec suggests that the raw value of a WoW account is now higher than a credit card and its associated verification data.

One card can be sold for up to $6 (£3) suggests Symantec, but a WoW account will be worth at least $10. An account that has several high level characters associated with it could be worth far more as the gold and rare items can be sold for real cash.

In a bid to head off the growing threat from the animated cursor flaw, Microsoft took the unusual step of releasing a patch for the bug on 3 April.

Usually Microsoft issues security patches on the second Tuesday of every month. The patch for the cursor flaw arrived a week early and Microsoft has been preparing it since December when the bug was first reported.

Windows users can get the patch via automatic updates or visit Microsoft to download it manually.

On its security blog, Microsoft said the patch was released early "to help better protect customers from this threat".

The software giant urged Windows users to download and install the patch.

It said there was a chance that attacks via the vulnerability would increase but had seen little evidence of widespread use yet.

Hybrid embryo ban 'unnecessary'

Government plans to ban the creation of human-animal hybrid embryos could potentially harm UK science, say MPs.

The science and technology select committee called for regulation of such work instead of an "unnecessary" ban.

Some researchers want to mix human and animal cells to create a source of stem cells to help fight human diseases.

The government has proposed a ban because of what it has called "public unease". Opponents say there is "global" opposition to such research.

However, as well as the report backing research, a letter from 223 medical charities and patient groups has called for the government to sanction it.

Genetic material would be taken from humans and put into a host animal egg to create hybrid embryos.

After a public consultation, the government proposed an outright ban on hybrid embryos and is due to publish a draft Bill next month.

Two applications from British research teams for permission to produce embryos that would be 99.9% human and 0.1% animal have been sent to the Human Fertility and Embryology Authority (HFEA) but have been put on hold.

'Unnecessarily prohibitive'

The MPs voiced concerns that a ban might not only encourage researchers to leave the UK in order to undertake their research in a "more permissive regulatory regime", but also "inhibit early stage researchers entering the field".

Phil Willis, chairman of the select committee, said banning the creation of hybrid embryos was unnecessarily prohibitive and the HFEA was capable of judging each application and issuing licences accordingly.

The committee said any human-animal chimera embryo should not be allowed to develop past 14 days and implantation of such embryos should be prohibited.

"This is a test of the government's commitment to science," Mr Willis said.

"Scientists, funders, the regulator and patient interest groups - even the DTI and the prime minister - have spoken out against the Department of Health's proposals."

Committee member Evan Harris said: "Ministers have never provided a rational basis for their ban and their only supporters are pro-life groups and anti-science campaigners who oppose all embryo research."

In a letter to Tony Blair, the Association of Medical Research Charities (AMRC) said there had been growing disquiet about an outright ban.

Spokeswoman Dr Sophie Petit-Zeman said: "To our knowledge, a letter to government signed by 223 medical research charities and patient organisations is unprecedented."

She said the AMRC respected the sensitivity of the issue but that it was important to balance concerns against the medical benefits that might be lost if it were outlawed.

'Robust mechanism'

Dr Vivienne Nathanson, head of science and ethics at the British Medical Association, said the law already prevented such embryos being placed in a woman and there was a robust mechanism for regulating individual research projects.
"The BMA does not understand the government's current reservations on this issue."

Professor Chris Shaw, neurologist at King's College London and one of the researchers who applied for a licence to create hybrid embryos, said: "The committee's recommendations show that when people really understand the work involved, and the potential benefits, that the law can be used to regulate and not restrict science in this field."

Sir Richard Gardner FRS, chairman of the Royal Society's stem cell working group, agreed a statutory ban was "unnecessary".

But Josephine Quintavalle, director of Comment on Reproductive Ethics said: "Despite the enthusiasm of this small committee, worldwide there is more opposition than support for the creation of such entities, and within the United Kingdom as well.

"The public should now demand an extensive and objective consultation at the highest democratic level, and by this we mean Parliament itself."

Eating a Mediterranean diet could help protect children from respiratory allergies and asthma, a study suggests.

UK, Greek and Spanish researchers assessed the diet and health of almost 700 children living in rural areas of Crete, where such conditions are rare.

They found those with a diet rich in fruit and vegetables were protected against both conditions.

UK experts said the study, in Thorax, added to existing evidence that diet could help control asthma symptoms.

More than five million people in the UK currently have asthma, and one in 10 children is affected.

Asthma 'rare'

The research was carried out by experts from the UK's National Heart and Lung Institute, the University of Crete, Venezelio General Hospital, in Crete, and the Centre for Research in Environmental Epidemiology, in Barcelona.

The team wanted to examine why children in some parts of Europe, such as the UK, get asthma while others, in places like Crete, do not.

They looked at the incidence of asthma symptoms, such as wheezing, and of allergic rhinitis, caused by dust mite or pet allergies.

Parents of the children, who were aged between seven and 18, were also asked how often they ate 58 foods in nine categories; vegetables, fruits, nuts, fish, cereal, dairy products, meat, poultry and margarines and oils.

The Mediterranean diet is rich in vegetables and fruit and low in saturated fats.

Skin allergies are relatively common in Crete - meaning that, in tests, children react to allergens such as dust mites.

But these do not appear to translate into respiratory allergies, such as asthma and allergic rhinitis.

The research found 80% of the children ate fresh fruit, and over two-thirds of them fresh vegetables, at least twice a day.

Nuts 'beneficial'

Eating oranges, apples, tomatoes and grapes each day, which around 300 children did, was shown to have a protective effect against wheezing and allergic rhinitis.

Red grape skin contains high levels of antioxidants as well as resveratrol, a potent polyphenol, known to curb inflammatory activity, say the authors.

Children who ate nuts - a rich source of vitamin E - at least three times a week, again just over 300, were less likely to wheeze.

Vitamin E is the body's main defence against cell damage caused by free radicals.

Nuts also contain high levels of magnesium, which other research has suggested may protect against asthma and boost lung power.

However, high consumption of margarine more than once a week (331 children) doubled the chances of asthma and allergic rhinitis, compared with those who ate it less frequently, the findings showed.

Dr Paul Cullinan, of the Royal Brompton Hospital and National Heart and Lung Institute, said: "It may be that diet is an important link in translating skin test responses to actual allergies.

"The message of the study is that foods with high antioxidant levels are good for you."

Leanne Male, assistant director of research at Asthma UK said: "The results of this study add to the existing evidence which indicates that a healthy diet can play an important role in the control of asthma symptoms.

"They demonstrate that the Mediterranean diet, which traditionally contains higher levels of fresh fruit and vegetables, can have a beneficial effect on asthma symptoms in children.

"This benefit is thought to be linked to the vitamins and antioxidants which they contain and Asthma UK is currently funding a number of research projects to further explore this association."

Muslim protesters who have forced the publishers to relocate to Bali said Thursday's verdict was "a bitter pill" and vowed to continue fighting against pornography.

Hundreds of police officers with water cannon surrounded the court house in anticipation of trouble.

Weeks of protests

The Indonesian version of the magazine went on sale for the first time last April, featuring several scantily-clad models but no nudity.

It drew weeks of protests, despite the fact that pornography is widely available in Indonesia.
Muslim groups in particular were worried about its effect on local morals.

The publishers - who brought out a second edition with similar content in June - had to move to Bali after their offices were stoned.

Shortly afterwards, Mr Arnada told a news conference the ruling was "a great gift for Playboy Indonesia because up until today for one year my friends and I worked under pressure".
"Playboy Indonesia is grateful to the readers and advertisers who have supported the magazine through this difficult time," he said. He would have faced two years in prison, if convicted.

The prosecution were assessing their next moves, but a lawyer representing Muslim groups said: "The road which we will take is refiling the complaint not only against Playboy but also against other adult magazines."

Angry Islamists said they rejected the verdict.

"This is a bitter pill," the Associated Press news agency quoted Bachtiar Ali, one of the organisers, as saying.

"Do we have to wait until our wives and daughters are raped?" he said. "We will keep fighting. Pornography is a moral crime that destroys the nation's faith."

United fans clashed with baton-wielding police inside Rome's Stadio Olimpico.

The two sets of supporters were separated in one section of the ground by a barrier with riot police gathered on the Manchester United side.

At one stage, riot police with shields and batons were seen repeatedly striking Manchester United supporters.

Home Officer Minister Vernon Coaker told BBC Radio Five Live that answers were needed into whether or not Italian police had been brutal.

"The scenes that we saw on our television screens were extremely concerning," he said.

"And I would be interested to see the report that comes - not only from Italian police but also from our own police officers who were out there, from the Embassy to listen to the fans themselves and indeed from the club to see what their view of things is and we need some explanation of what actually took place and the police response to it."

Achille Serra, head of Rome Police, told BBC Rome's Christian Frazer the police action was a "justified response", and said there would be no inquiry unless he were shown evidence of any alleged police brutality.

Mr Serra added that if there were evidence of any brutality he would condemn it - but he said there was no such behaviour.

'Pretty vicious'

Stephen Fitzsimons, 53, from Stretford, Greater Manchester, was knifed in the groin as he made his way to the ground.

He told BBC Radio Manchester: "No police have been to see me... it's disgusting."

A Manchester United fan, David Pearce, said: "Italian police attacked the Manchester United crowd. I tried to help a girl who'd fallen down and one of the policemen hit me with a baton.

"It's absolute pandemonium. It's just terrible."

Another fan, Debbie Robertson, told the BBC she was shielded by Italian police from other officers who were using their batons to beat fans.
"I was very frightened. I was actually shielded by... one of the police came and shielded me from his colleagues."

One Rome resident, Justin Smith, e-mailed the BBC News website to say that before the game he had seen Manchester United fans "stumbling in and out of the pubs all day getting riotously drunk, to then show up at the stadium two hours before game time looking for trouble".

Around 5,000 United fans had tickets for the game.

William Gaillard, from Uefa, said the body was very concerned at the number of violent incidents this year.

"We will be waiting for the delegate's report, and the control and disciplinary body will be looking at the television images to see the dynamics of what actually happened."

Manchester United said in a statement: "There were clearly some very disturbing scenes in the stadium last night.

"Until we have had chance to discuss the situation with the British Embassy in Rome and the Italian authorities and to understand the cause, it would be inappropriate to comment."

Violent reputation

Computer giant Dell will start to sell PCs preinstalled with open source Linux operating systems, the firm has said.

The second largest computer maker in the world said it had chosen to offer Linux in response to customer demand.

Earlier this year, 100,000 people took part in a Dell survey. More than 70% of respondents said they would use Linux.

Dell has not released details of which versions of Linux it will use or which computers it will run on, but promised an update in the coming weeks.

"Dell has heard you," said a statement on the firm's website. "Our first step in this effort is offering Linux preinstalled on select desktop and notebook systems."

Currently the company only offers Microsoft Windows on its computers, but sells servers running Linux.

Members of the Linux community welcomed the move.

"I think it sends a message in two ways," he said.

"One is that a major company is confident enough to be able to offer Linux preinstalled on a desktop - that sends a signal that Linux is usable to the average user - and I think it shows that there is a growing demand for an alternative to Windows."

'No surprise'

Microsoft is the world's largest software maker and its proprietary Windows operating system is found on nine out of every 10 personal computers.

While companies such as Microsoft earn money by licensing and charging for use of their products, Linux code is freely available.

That means anyone can modify it or develop applications for it. As a result, there are many different types, or distributions, of Linux operating systems that offer different functionality.

As Linux is free to download and distribute, the exact numbers of users is difficult to quantify.

However, analysts believe that approximately 6% of computers users run Linux, similar to the numbers choosing Apple Macs.

Big business and governments, particularly in the developing world, are also starting to exploit the flexibility of open source code.

The UK Cabinet Office recently evaluated the operating system and approved it as a viable alternative to proprietary systems. Car manufacturer Peugeot has also rolled it out across its employees' desktop computers.

But until now there has not been a major computer manufacturer willing to preinstall Linux on consumer computers.

"The fact that Dell is offering a desktop with Linux is no surprise," said Mr Veitch.

"The surprise is that it has taken them this long."

It comes just days after rival Sony completed its launch of the high definition capable PlayStation 3 (PS3).

The premium version of the PS3 costs £425 (599 Euros) in the UK and comes with a 60GB hard drive. It also contains a high definition Blu-ray player and an HDMI port, to connect the console to high definition TVs and display games in their full graphical glory.

However, neither premium nor basic versions come with an HDMI cable to connect the console to a display.

Digital home

In contrast, Microsoft has said it will include the necessary cables with its Elite machine. But users will have to pay extra for a high definition HD-DVD player, currently costing £129.99 in the UK.

"With a separate drive, the cost is very similar to the PS3," said Paul O'Donovan, principal analyst at research firm Gartner.

The HD-DVD player was launched in December 2006 for the original Xbox 360, which is already capable of playing high definition content.

Microsoft said its new offering was in response to customer demand.

"Today's games and entertainment enthusiast has an insatiable appetite for digital high-definition content," said Peter Moore, corporate vice president for Microsoft's games division.

The hard drive on the new Xbox machine is six times bigger than the current high-end Xbox.

Microsoft has said it will sell the Elite alongside existing Xbox 360 systems and it will offer the detachable 120GB hard drive for $179.99 (£90).

Sony has said it has no plans to increase the size of internal hard drives, but users can add extra space by attaching an external hard drive.

Game focus

The companies moves into offering downloads straight to the living room also puts them into competition with the likes of Apple, who launched its Apple TV box to stream content downloaded from iTunes to a TV screen.

"Apple TV is a great way to move content," said Mr O'Donovan. "So this maybe a response to the Apple TV rather than the PS3."

This would allow the console to tap into offerings from telecoms and cable TV companies to pipe high-definition movies and television into homes.

"Gamers buy these consoles to play games. Everything else is a bonus," he said.

Both consoles allow users to download content such as game extras, images and video to the hard drives.

PlayStation users can use the PlayStation Network, while Microsoft runs the Xbox LIVE online service.

epicentre, 50km (30 miles) northeast of Padang.

residents from the town of Batusangkar near the epicentre,

Malaysia, and several tall buildings in Singapore's

Traders said there was no impact on financial trading.
Indonesia sits on the seismically active Pacific Ring of
